A paper titled "Colectica for Excel: Using DDI Lifecycle with Spreadsheets" will be presented. This demonstration will introduce the new Colectica for Microsoft Excel software, a free tool to document statistical data using open standards. The software implements leading open standards including the Data Documentation Initiative Lifecycle version 3 and ISO 11179.

Two use case papers will also be presented. The paper "Applying DDI to a Longitudinal Study of Aging" will detail the use of DDI-L and Colectica at the Midlife in the United States study. Another paper titled "DDI-Lifecycle and Colectica at the UCLA Social Science Data Archive" will detail the use of DDI-Lifecycle in a data archive.

After the conference, a Colectica workshop titled "Hands on DDI 3 with Colectica" will be given Thursday April 4th at the Budig Instruction Lab at the University of Kansas. The training course will cover an introduction to DDI 3 and Colectica, documenting studies, data collection, and dissemination, ingesting existing data sources, and publishing documentation.

Colectica staff will be available to give evaluations of the DDI based software tools available from Colectica that enable documenting of data, data collection, survey methodologies, survey instruments, questions, variables, and datasets. All of these products use open standards to allow for interoperability with other tools.
